Harris produced an early series of black and white gelatin silver photographic prints titled “Americas” in 1987-88, in which he explored issues of race, gender, and sexuality through visual representation and their intersection in the formation of subjectivity. In 2012, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York, acquired Americas (Triptych), 1987-88, which was presented with Ecstasy #2, 1987-88, among other works in its 2019-20 exhibition “Implicit Tensions: Mapplethorpe Now” (Part 2). The photograph Man and Woman #1, which was acquired by the Getty in 2016, was featured in its 2019-20 exhibition “UNSEEN: 35 Years of Collecting Photographs” at the Getty Center, Los Angeles, California.
