“Blow Up” is a series of site-specific, mixed-media collage installations, including photographic pigment prints on kozo paper, undertaken in 2001 while Harris was in residence as a fellow at the American Academy in Rome. The centerpiece is a blow-up of a sports shoe advertisement that bears an uncanny resemblance to Manet’s 1863 painting, “Olympia,” which is juxtaposed with hundreds of other images, serving to draw out the ad’s political undertones. Blow Up IV is included in the collection of the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Castilla y León, and a monograph on the “Blow Up” series was published by Gregory R. Miller in 2009.
